Elsevier publishes over 2,500 digitized journals, including The Lancet and Cell, more than 35,000 e-book titles and many iconic reference works, including Gray's Anatomy.

Within our Science, Technology and Medical Journal (STMJ) team we are looking for a Managing Editor to join our Physics journal team, covering the field of Condensed Matter Physics.

You will work closely with colleagues in the areas of content acquisition, network expansion and the coordination of special projects and initiatives. Your activities include identifying manuscripts for transfer, offering the authors guidance and ensuring a smooth overall transfer process which will support the portfolio in capturing more quality content. You will play an important role in Elsevier's strategy of combining quality content with technology powered by operational efficiency and effectiveness to drive true innovation.

In this role you will check and evaluate submissions (submitted to the selected journals) before the manuscripts are assigned to the handling editors and before the review process has started. Your goal is to filter out submissions that do not fit within the criteria of the selected journal, such as originality, novelty, methodology, readability and scope of journal. Screening of articles will be based on questions like: Is the article submitted within the Aims and Scope of the journal? Does the science make sense? Is the manuscript of sufficient quality? Does the introduction explain the novelty that the article will bring? And does it explain the motivation for this research? You will work with the editors of Physics to maintain the journal’s high standards and further develop an efficient, author-friendly workflow.
