Ceramisphere synthesizes silica nano- and microparticles doped with a range of actives, from small organic molecules to proteins, for controlled release applications. This three-dimensional microtomographic reconstruction shows silica microparticles loaded with droplets of limonene fragrance. The largest sphere is 106 µm across. The tomographic data was collected using an X-ray ultra-microscope, which is mounted on a scanning electron microscope to enable X-ray microscopy and microtomography.
