| Monodisperse emulsions of poly(dimethylsiloxane) in water made using a microfluidic device. Sodium dodecyl sulfate was used as an emulsifier dissolved in the aqueous phase. The microfluidic device uses water to focus a stream of co-flowing oil to a fine thread. The thread is unstable and breaks up to form droplets of constant size. When the emulsion was placed under a microscope the water evaporated, forming close-packed hexagonal arrays of droplets. | ||
