Professor Douglas Soares Galvão, Associate Editor of Computational Materials Science, has been elected to the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC; Academia Brasileira de Ciências).

The Brazilian Academy of Sciences was founded in 1916 and brings together the most eminent scientists in the Mathematical, Physical, Chemical, Earth, Biological, Biomedical, Health, Agricultural, Engineering and Social fields. Its focus is the scientific development of Brazil, the interaction among Brazilian scientists and the interaction of these with researchers from other nations.

In December 2015, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences elected twenty-one new members, as well as seven corresponding members, at the Annual General Meeting held: this included three members in the physical sciences, including Prof Douglas Galvão (Unicamp, Brazil).

ABC members are scientists that have been based in Brazil for more than ten years, who have made outstanding scientific achievements.
