Aim of the satellite meeting

This satellite meeting, sponsored by PANalytical, will be run as a workshop and will introduce the Rietveld method to non-expert users. An adequate background in crystallography is desirable in order to fully take advantage of this event. The morning sessions will be devoted to an introduction of the theoretical aspects of the Rietveld method and to presentation of PANalytical’s the HighScore software. The afternoon session will focus on practical examples using X-ray and neutron data with hands-on tutorials using HighScore. A trial version of HighScore 4.0 including the Plus option (valid for 3 months) will be installed on each attendee’s PC. For the second part of the hands-on session, the participants are welcomed/encouraged to bring their own powder diffraction data and scientific problems. These data can be either neutron or X-ray data.

Each participant will be asked to submit a short motivation for application. Each participant is also highly encouraged to submit own data with a short description of the experimental details and scientific problem. Cost for attendance will be CAD 50.- per person for academics and CAD 150.- for non-academics. This includes the lectures, lecture material, breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks. All participants who successfully complete the course, will receive a certificate.
