PPG Paints Trading Co., Ltd., Shanghai, recently entered into a School-Enterprise Cooperative Agreement with the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Beijing, kicking off the first vocational education program for automotive painting in China. By providing faculty training, teaching aids and materials, PPG will help to accelerate the development of vocational education in China and share its state-of-the-art technologies and training systems with professionals in the fast-growing Chinese automotive repair industry.
Lu Xin, vice minister, MOE, and Pauline Yuen, PPG vice president, refinish coatings and light industrial coatings, Asia, and architectural coatings, China, signed the agreement during a ceremony in Beijing. Also in attendance were: Ge Daokai, head of the MOE Department of Vocational and Adult Education; James Yang, PPG general manager of automotive refinish and light industrial coatings, China; leaders from the Department of Social Development-National Development and Reform Commission, Department of Education, Science and Culture-Ministry of Finance, Department of Science and Technology-Ministry of Transport, China Automotive Maintenance and Repair Trade Association, and China Machinery Industry Federation; and representatives from vocational schools in Beijing and surrounding areas.
“PPG recognizes the importance of training and education,” Yuen said. “As a sponsor of this program, the company has established a premier global training system that will be introduced in China through the School-Enterprise Cooperative Program and enable the training of more local automotive painting students.”
Since automotive repair was included in the National Education Project for Talent Shortage in 2004, PPG has actively helped to support automotive repair industry training efforts in China. The company initiated the School-Enterprise Cooperative Program and worked with the MOE to promote the industry’s development and to help train tomorrow’s professionals in the use of its automotive repair techniques and technologies through vocational education.
