Materials Today Rising Star Awards 2018

Nominations for the 2018 Awards are now closed

The Materials Today ‘Rising Star Awards’ recognize early career researchers in materials science and engineering who have demonstrated themselves to be exceptionally capable researchers with the potential to become future leaders in the field.

The awards are open to candidates within 15 years of completing their PhD who have demonstrated themselves to be the most exceptionally capable researchers with the potential to become future leaders in the field: as such the criteria to be assessed will include the impact of the research the candidate has conducted and the contributions the candidate has made to the materials community, including but not limited to the candidate’s published research, as judged by the award panel. 

Materials Today is delighted to announce that the 2018 winners are:

  • Advanced Manufacturing: Dr Yuebing Zheng, University of Texas at Austin 
  • Sensors: Dr Jacob Robinson, Rice University
  • Materials genome: Dr Jian Wang, University of Nebraska, Lincoln
  • Bio and Soft materials science: Dr Xuanhe Zhao, M.I.T. 

The inaugural Awards will be presented at the Materials Today: The Future of Materials Science in the Next Two Decades” workshop, taking place at Rice University on September 27-28th 2018.

In addition to the primary awards, Materials Today ‘Rising Star Poster Awards’ will also be presented at leading international conferences around the world to recognize the value of individual projects. Call for future awards, and their themes, will be announced next year.
