Over the past 20 years the SEM (scanning electron microscope) based EBSD (electron back-scattered diffraction) technique has developed into an essential materials characterisation tool for both R&D and industry. The technique is a powerful tool for providing detailed visualisation of microstructures and crystallographic textural information of materials ranging from metals through to minerals. This webinar will introduce the basic concepts of the EBSD technique and illustrate current technology for data acquisition and visualisation tools, for example 2D and 3D data acquisition with accuracy, sensitivity and flexibility. It will also cover in-situ heating experiments, and simultaneous data acquisition with the latest SDD EDS detectors for phase identification.
