The system was developed specifically in response to growing worldwide interest in printed electronics, including the need to train a new generation of workers in additive manufacturing technology.

The Aerosol Jet 200 benchtop system is part of Optomec’s range of printed electronics equipment. The first Aerosol Jet 200 benchtop system was delivered to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Material Science at the University of Minnesota, where it is used in research programmes focused on understanding connections between structure and electrical transport behaviour in organic semiconductors.

The system can process a wide variety of materials including conductive polymer and nano-particle inks, dielectric, resistor, semiconductor, and even biologic materials. The print heads enable deposition of a wide variety of feature sizes ranging from 10 microns to millimeters on both planar and non-planar substrates. The cost-effective system provides a 200 x 200 mm (8 x 8 inch) work envelope and comes with an ultrasonic atomizer, fine feature deposition head, process monitoring and alignment cameras, X-Y motion, process control electronics, and system control and tool path generation software. Optional features for processing high viscosity inks and printing wide feature are also available.
