HK3D has launched the Markforged Metal X 3D printer in the UK, giving engineers and designers alike access to metal 3D printing that had previously been at an higher price level.

The Metal X binds metal powder in a plastic matrix, making the process safer than in traditional metal 3D printing, the company says.

HK3D adds that when compared to traditional fabrication technologies like machining or casting, the Metal X can be up to 100x less expensive and up to 10x less than other alternative laser based additive manufacturing technologies.

The system includes cloud-based printer management software, an automatic wash station and a sinter station. The machine has a fully enclosed build chamber, motion system and material storage.
