In recent years, polarized neutron reflectivity has played an essential role in the exploration of magneto- and spintronic nanostructures. In addition to studies of well-known layered systems, neutron scattering has now also expanded in the direction of laterally structured magnetic media, such as stripes and islands on the submicrometer scale. After introducing the experimental technique of polarized neutron reflectivity, selected examples will be discussed in more detail.
