The automated Pick-&-Place system is capable of picking, positioning and placing carbon or glass fibre reinforcements using a vacuum gripper technology.

The PLC-control for the composites handling system includes many features that are currently unique to the market, says BROETJE Automation. These include efficient use of energy, variability of workpiece geometry, and lightweight design.

When developing the system, BROETJE-Automation’s objectives included an energy efficient design based on low operating costs, and also the scalability of the system, ranging from a small hand-held gripping system to a full-scale portal-positioner-guided gripping system.

The composite handling system is also able to handle varying workpiece geometries. The system has a configurable vacuum gripper arrangement, allowing for addition of customised equipment.
