Thai composites company Cobra International Ltd is collaborating with robotics specialist Obodroid to build a new security robot. Cobra plans to deliver a set of eight composite parts that form the lightweight body shell cladding of the 1.35 m high robot. According to the company, production of the first batch of robots will begin in 2020.

The robot shell parts are reportedly made of a glass fiber and epoxy composite laminate which provides a stiff and lightweight cladding for the robot. A combination of woven and stitched multiaxial reinforcements were hand laminated with epoxy resins before curing under vacuum bag consolidation, Cobra said.

The company says that it also developed the mold tools for the composite parts with some molds made in-house and the rest produced by its network of local tooling partners.
