According to Comtek, the industry standard for aircraft part repairs is 21 calendar days, and often much longer.

Comtek Advanced Structures, located in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, is an advanced composites design, fabrication and repair company, specialising in out-of-autoclave processes. As an Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) and Design Approval Organisation (DAO), Comtek provides proprietary repairs to fix primary and secondary structures with damage beyond SRM limits. Comtek typically services 30-100 passenger regional aircraft including CRJs, Dash 8s, ATR, Dornier, Saab, Embraer and Learjets.

Faster repair turnaround times reduce the number of spare parts an airline has to inventory.

“If your plane is down for maintenance for 14 days, but it takes 20 days for the repair, you need to have a spare part on the shelf, " explains Charlene Ridley, Repairs Product Line Manager at Comtek.

"If you are doing five aircraft at a time you need five spares. That builds up fast”
