The new Metyx Composites factory in Manisa, is located 20 km from the city of Izmir in the Manisa Organized Industrial Zone.

Although the company's headquarters will remain in Istanbul, the new 12 500 m2 (134 550 ft2) facility in Manisa will drive METYX Composites' plans for growth over the next five years. The site will also allow for future expansion.

METYX Composites, a division of textiles company Telateks A.S., has invested €4.5 million in facilities and infrastructure at the new plant. The Manisa facility will also be at the core of a five-year investment of €8.5 million in high-end machinery.

According to Ugur Ustunel, VP New Business, METYX Composites, the new factory will be one of the largest industrial investments in Manisa in the past five years.

“We are investing in the region with the most potential for growth,” explains Ustunel.

“Manisa is located in the Aegean region, which accounts for about 80% of the country’s wind energy potential. We believe that this investment creates a greater logistical advantage for our wind energy customers."

The location has an extraordinary geographical position between Europe and Asia and is in close proximity to the Middle East, the Balkans, and North Africa," he continues. "Moreover, the zone provides access to major ports, proximity to our suppliers, and has a generally favourable business climate, which will benefit all our customers across industries.”

Construction of the new factory is expected to be completed in January 2012, with auxiliary buildings to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The Manisa facility will begin operations in January 2012 with the launch of the METYX Composites Tooling Business Unit.

The Tooling Centre will incorporate a 5-axis CNC machine for large scale plug and mould production and will serve all METYX Composites customers worldwide as a value added service.

METYX Composites plans to ramp up production at the new manufacturing centre in phases from January 2012.

METYX Composites manufactures a range of high-performance technical textiles including multiaxial reinforcements, carbon reinforcements, resin transfer moulding (RTM) reinforcements, woven rovings, vacuum consumables, and surface veils.
