Thermo Fisher Scientific has developed a new scanning electron microscope (SEM) that it says can provide actionable data up to twice as fast as similar products on the market.

The Axia ChemiSEM incorporates energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis and the company’s ChemiSEM technology which allows users to have almost instant access to quantitative compositional imaging, Thermo Scientific said.

The SEM has auto-alignment and auto-focus technology, and is suitable for investigating samples of a variety pf shapes and sizes, including heavy samples up to ten kilograms, according to the company.

‘The Axia ChemiSEM […] expand materials analysis access by extending micro-imaging and micro-analysis to a broad range of non-technical users,’ said Rosy Lee, vice president of materials science at Thermo Fisher. ‘This new microscope is ideal for both high-volume industrial labs that want to increase sample throughput while reducing costs and academic institutions that want affordable, reliable, and fast SEM-EDS analysis with less training.’
