For most people these days, the Internet has become a boring thing to read about -"e" this and "dot.com" that, with most of it being used for purposes straying very far from its research roots - from the questionable to the banal - pictures of the family vacation, for example, or e-mail spam hyping a way to get rich quick or other even more unsavory subjects.
