Embracing Challenge award

From construction and electronics, through to energy and medicine; materials science and engineering has made significant and enduring contributions to the lives of every human being. Materials Today seeks to highlight the impact materials science has on our everyday lives and to acknowledge researchers who have made a significant and positive impact to the advancement of the field while at the same time overcoming significant challenges.

The Materials Today ‘Embracing Challenge award’ aims to recognize researchers in the field of materials science and engineering who have overcome difficult circumstances to pursue their research career, however early or advanced, and are contributing meaningful insights in their particular field of investigation.

‘Difficult circumstances’ may include challenges arising from gender, socioeconomic background, ethnicity/culture, disability, and/or the local economic environment.

Most importantly Materials Today is seeking to acknowledge and support individuals who have faced their specific challenge and worked to overcome obstacles in order to continue their contribution to the research community.  Please note that publication record is not the sole criterion for nomination.

Previous winners of the award include Kytai Nguyen and Fernando Torres.

The winner will be selected to receive an award of USD 5000 and a travel grant to attend the award ceremony during an upcoming Materials Today event in 2019.

Nominations will open soon.
