The EMN meeting began in 2008 as a small workshop held at a traditional villa in Orlando, Florida. Since then five successful workshops have been organized under the theme of Energy, Materials and Nanotechnology. The EMN Conference series have grown beyond the traditional villa setting and have had continued success in 2009 (St.Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands), 2010 (Santorini, Greece), 2011 (Las Vegas, Nevada), 2012 (Orlando, Florida) and 2013 (Chengdu, China).

The EMN East Meeting will join efforts with the UNESCO Chair MATECSS ( Materials and Technologies for Energy Conversion, Saving and Storage). It will emphasize the importance of affordable and sustainable materials and technologies and capacity building in terms of training a new generation of scientists and engineers in these areas of research which are becoming increasingly important in developed and developing countries alike. Currently MATECSS, based at INRS in Canada, has partners in Algeria, China (Institute of Semiconductors, CAS; UESTC, Chengdu; SUSTC, Shenzen), Costa Rica, India, Mexico, Morocco, South Africa and Vietnam. We hope that EMN East will be an opportunity to consolidate these existing partnerships and at the same time we welcome new partners for collaborative research, exchanges of students and faculty and joint PhD degrees.

EMN East will be a few days of intense collaboration with great social occasions. It will be not only be a time to enjoy the company of fellow researchers in the field, but also a time to have fun with friends and family!
