The organisations want to increase the awareness of metal dust hazards and promote plant safety.

The memorandum was signed during the recent Council of Manufacturing Associations Winter Leadership Conference.

“This is a great opportunity for the aluminium industry to continue to show its commitment to workplace safety,” said Heidi Brock, AAI president. “By formalizing our relationship with MPIF, our member companies will be better informed on issues related to metal powder and dust.”

A few highlights of the memorandum:

  • Powder-producing members of both the AAI and MPIF will support one another by participating in regional workshops and meetings concerning dust hazards and promotion of safety in plant operations.
  • The two associations will share information on dust hazards and best practices, and provide updates on publications, standards, or any other activity of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), and the Chemical Safety Board (CSB).
  • The AAI, will to address MPIF concerns upon request and where feasible as part of the NFPA 484 Technical Committee.
