UK automotive engine manufacturing rose 7.6% in August following the summer shutdown, according to The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Ltd (SMMT).

Demand from home and international markets grows 10.9% and 5.8% respectively, but YTD volumes remain down, the organization said. Almost two thirds of output were shipped overseas this year.

‘This month’s figures are welcome news; however, the impact of keeping some production lines rolling throughout August when they would traditionally be shutdown cannot be discounted,’ said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive.
