The 28 October ribbon cutting ceremony was carried out jointly by Dave Kasputis, Hoeganaes’ president and Stephan Magirius, president of GKN China. Also on the platform for the event were Zhou Hai Yang, vice general manager of NBTM, one of the largest PM companies in China; Ms Chen Yue, general secretary of one of China’s larger PM associations, the CMPMA; and William Wang, China country manager for Hoeganaes.

The new plant’s focus is service of customers in China by providing a high-quality mixing facility and fully-equipped laboratory with technical support and quality assurance facilities local to the Chinese market. It will offer short lead-time production of press-ready premixes as well as warehousing the full portfolio of Hoeganaes’ products.

Sales activities will continue to be centred on Shanghai, some 200km away, an established centre of the PM business in China.

Speaking just after the opening, Dave Kasputis said: “Our China expansion plans allow us to significantly improve our support for this critical growth market, and is consistent with our strategic worldwide expansion plans.”
