Elsevier is now seeking a Managing Editor to oversee the Article Transfer Service within the Materials Today family. This exciting new role will comprise managing and optimizing the Article Transfer Service, to better support Authors and Editors. The role will include responsibility for activities including:

  • Screening and initial assessment of submissions
  • Making recommendations and assigning papers to handling editors 
  • Liaising with Publishers and Editors across journals
  • Developing the Article Transfer Service, to overcome rate-limiting steps

The role is offered on an initial 12 month contract, which may be renewed by mutual consent. The preference for the role is on a single candidate that can spend up to 35 hours per week on the role; however enthusiastic candidates who are only able to commit a smaller amount of time are also encouraged to apply. The role is offered on a contractor basis; meaning candidates will work from their preferred location (outside of an Elsevier office), and may engage in other work or studies so long as there is no direct Conflict of Interest (eg, other journal Editor role).

About the candidate

The role is ideally suited to a recent PhD graduate or final year PhD candidate with a background in a materials science related field, who wishes to explore a role within publishing. As a minimum, the candidate must possess:

  • Undergraduate degree in physical sciences field
  • Experience as a physical sciences researcher (eg, as PhD student)
  • Experience as a published journal author 

Previous Editorial experience is not necessary, and all training will be provided.
