Financing retirement from university life with the proceeds of a smart invention is undeniably an attractive prospect. Unfortunately, attempts to commercialize academic research can result all too easily in knock-backs and disappointed investors, rather than a generous pension deposit. But, if you pitch the right idea to the right market, money can be made. Not only that, the technology could do a great deal of good, while also bolstering its inventor's curriculum vitae.
