Are you interested in becoming a journal editor? Materials Today Communications is looking to appoint a new section editor to the team.

Materials Today Communication is a broad scope, multi-disciplinary, rapid-publication journal focused on sound science. Materials are an essential component of every industry and underpin the technologies used in daily life. Materials science is an ever-expanding and evolving multi-disciplinary field, encompassing aspects of physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and mathematics. Materials Today Communications is interested in papers that focus on understanding the structure-property relationship for materials, utilizing characterization methods across different length scales to understand the effect of nano-, micro- and macro-structure on mechanical, electronic and chemical properties, and applying new and existing techniques to manufacture materials with properties and applications capable of meeting the challenges society faces now and in the future. Materials Today Communications covers all aspects of materials science, publishing sound science articles on materials research. Our 'sound science' approach means we do not filter submissions based on their topic area, but on the quality of the individual manuscript.

After a phase of expansion, Materials Today Communications is in the process of selecting a new section editor. The ideal candidate should possess expertise in Biomaterial Synthesis & Tissue Engineering, complemented by hands-on in-vivo research experience and proficiency in additive manufacturing for bio applications. A valuable additional qualification would be knowledge of biosensors.

Editors will be responsible for around 6-8 manuscripts per week, which have already been filtered by the Assistant Editors or Scientific Managing Editors. As a young journal, we place particular importance on maintaining a rapid turnaround time, and currently papers which go out for peer review receive a first decision in 5-6 weeks, though we would like to further improve on this without compromising on the quality of the feedback provided.

This is an exciting time to join a journal in a crucial period of development, and the appointed editors will have a significant opportunity to inform the development and growth of the journal.

An honorarium is provided.

Candidate requirements:
- PhD in related discipline (essential)
- Significant publication experience in top tier journals (essential)
- Significant reviewing experience for top tier journals (essential)
- Guest editor or other editorial experience (desirable)

To apply, please send a copy of your CV (please ensure this includes your ORCID ID) and a short statement of motivation outlining your fit for the role to the publisher, Daniel Staemmler at d.staemmler@elsevier.com, with the subject line ‘MTCOMM: Section Editor Role – Biomaterials’. The deadline for applications is 04 December 2023. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an informal interview at a mutually convenient date, before 21 December 2023.
