Established in 2006, the 7th Feng Xinde Polymer Prize for the Best Chinese Paper published in the journal Polymer during 2012 has been awarded to Wen-Hua  Sun and colleagues for their paper looking at the synthesis and characterization of iron(II) complexes, for applications in ethylene polymerization. Titled Controlling the ethylene polymerization parameters in iron pre-catalysts of the type 2-[1-(2,4-dibenzhydryl-6-methylphenylimino)ethyl]-6-[1-(arylimino)ethyl] pyridyliron dichloride, the researchers also determined the molecular structures via single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, and found that the molecular weights of the polyethylenes could be controlled.

The Prize includes a certificate and a medal for the author of the winning paper plus a 1000 USD cash award. Each corresponding author of the 10 papers nominated for the Prize receives a nomination certificate and medal.

The award is named after Dr. Xinde Feng, the renowned researcher known for his contribution to the creation and development of modern polymer chemistry in China. In the late 1940s he was the first professor to offer a course on polymer chemistry, and helped in the development of polymer science through the organization of meetings and symposia involving both Chinese and foreign scientists.
