Professor Jinsong, a professor at Harbin Institute of Technology, was appointed Academician as part of the 2021 process, following a November 18 Chinese Academy of Sciences announcement.
He is an active member of several key Composites Journal Editorial Boards - Composite Structures (since 2016), Composites Part A (since 2013) and Composites Part C (since 2020).

- Current Position - Professor at Harbin Institute of Technology, and director of the Center for Smart Materials and Structures;
- Research Specialities - smart materials and structures, sensors and actuators, stimulus-responsive polymers (shape memory polymers, electroactive polymers) and their composites, multifunctional nanocomposites
- Honours - Prof. Leng has served as the Vice President of International Committee on Composite Materials (ICCM); and Vice President of the Chinese Society for Composite Materials (CSCM). He has also been elected as Foreign Member of Academia Europaea, Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, World Fellow of ICCM, Fellow of AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science), Fellow of the SPIE, Fellow of Institute of Physics (IOP), Fellow of Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), Fellow of Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (IMMM) and Associate Fellow of AIAA.
